We’re sorry to tell you that DiscoDamaged Berlin is closing, and this will be the last post.
We relaunched with a big fanfare back in November 2013, following a change of editor, but sadly, as we went in one direction, the market went in another, and the business model for DiscoDamaged – selling advertising direct to businesses – doesn’t work any more. Particularly in Berlin, where everyone wants everything for free!
We even tried using Google advertising, but they wouldn’t accept us, because of we’re not a ‘family-friendly’ site – we think they took a look, saw the word ‘sex’ on the front page, and immediately clicked the ‘reject’ button!
Our calendar remains popular, but takes up a lot of time to collate and check, and we didn’t feel right having people rely on us for up to the minute, accurate information, when we don’t have the resources to ensure this. We suggest you visit the website for Berlin’s popular gay magazine Siegessäule, which has an excellent English language events calendar.
All of this was compounded by the fact that although we always write in the third person (we), DiscoDamaged Berlin is, like the London site, run by just one person, Elliot, and running a website like DiscoDamaged needs a team of people if it’s to be as helpful as it should be.
